There was a final conversation between Alex and Mia at the end of Episode 2 that hinted for the first time in a while of a possible separation coming their way
Alex Park (Will Yun Lee) is dwindling in more than just a fair bit of dilemma as the initial phases of the pandemic rolls by in the current timeline of 'The Good Doctor' Season 4. Alex, who had promised to be in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife and son for his graduation ceremony, gets stalled by the recent influx of Covid-19 cases at St Bonaventure.
This makes his son very upset, but although things kind of sort out between the two by the episode's end, one can't help but wonder if Alex and his wife Mia (Jennifer Birmingham Lee) are inching towards an inevitable divorce?
The synopsis of the upcoming Episode 3 doesn't quite reveal anything on the Alex and Mia front. Instead, it teases how the episode titled 'Newbies' will see Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and the rest of the residents scramble under the pressure of the pandemic.
"With several candidates vying for residency at St Bonaventure, Lim tasks Shaun, Claire and Alex with mentoring the top first-year resident contenders; Shaun inadvertently insults Lea while discussing the pros and cons of a controversial surgery," reveals the synopsis.
It is however the chat that Alex and Mia have at the end of Episode 2 that gives off hints of a possible separation coming their way. After sorting things out with their son, making him see reason in just why Alex can't be there for his graduation, the parents finally get to discuss the predicament they have found themselves in. It is finally time for Alex to tell Mia that he can go home.
Yet after waiting months for this moment, Alex's plans to go home don't sound convincing enough. On the call, he asks Mia if she loves him, and she answers in the positive, adding how she adores the way he loves their son, and how he lights up when he is around him.
This prompts Alex to answer the same. He tells Mia he too loves her for the same reason but none of this requires them to be together in person to do that. They can be apart and still love each other and their son the way they have.
There's a hint of promise in their conversation, though there's also the possibility that this was more about the worst-case scenario of things just not working out between the two of them anymore. It would suck to see the couple go their individual ways but at least they agreed on still loving each other and caring for their son the same way.
'The Good Doctor' Season 4 airs on Mondays at 10 pm on ABC.
