Rivera and Dominique Luzuriaga got married in October 2021 and knew each other since childhood
Dominique Luzuriaga, Jason Rivera's wife, shared heartfelt memories on after learning about her husband's death. They got married on October 9, 2021, and waited for his RDO to spend some time together but the unforeseen occurrence placed them in a tragic predicament. Rivera was killed in an ambush on Friday night of January 21, 2022 when he and his colleague, Officer Wilbert Mora, were both shot by convicted felon Lashawn McNeil, 47, while investigating a domestic-violence incident at a Harlem apartment. Rivera's death was deemed a homicide after an autopsy revealed he died from gunshot wounds in the head and torso.
“Yesterday I visited the where you used to me at during your meal time or right before you had to go downstairs to the muster room for roll call at 15:00,” Rivera's grief stricken widow wrote on her instagram post. “We both waited for your RDO’s (days off) to spend them together,” she wrote in her post. “But now your soul will spend the rest of my days with me, through me, right beside me.” Her Instagram profile features their beautiful photos together, and she is commonly seen sharing heartfelt snippets of her life.

Hundreds of NYPD officers stood shoulder to shoulder with New York City firefighters on Sunday, January 23, as a hearse carrying the body of fallen officer Jason Rivera left the medical examiner's office. Rivera's wake will be held at St Patrick's Cathedral on Thursday, January 27 from 1 pm to 8 pm Family and friends will say their final goodbyes on Friday, January 28 also at St Patrick's, beginning at 9 am.
According to CBS2's Kevin Rincon, there was a strong show of solidarity throughout the day of Sunday, as first responders from other agencies came to stand side-by-side with the NYPD. The entire New York City is in grief as a result of the catastrophe.
